FREE EVENT! Travel Talk: Travel Safety with Sierra Club Speaker Elisa Kotin

https://www.meetup.com/TheWorldTraveled/events/262873290/?isFirstPublish=true

Tuesday, July 9, 2019
La Crescenta Library – The Meeting Room
2809 Foothill Blvd, La Crescenta, CA 91214
7:30pm – 9:30pm

Join the La Crescenta Chapter of the Sierra Club for an interactive conversation on traveling safely around the globe. There will be an emphasis on solo travel.

The speaker, Elisa Kotin has explored 80+ countries across all 7 continents.

Visiting unique and remote destinations in Papua New Guinea, Irian Jaya, Ethiopia and more, Elisa will share the “good and the bad” and the “great and the now what?” moments. You will hear about the stories that match the photos and then the “what really happened” moments.

How can you protect yourself before you leave home? (Lot’s of info here)

What do you do after you are so sick from white water rafting in Zimbabwe, you pass out and wake up in a hospital with 2 IV’s in your arm?

What do you in Vietnam when you get so sick and can’t leave your hotel room, and the doctor that shows up wants to give you an IV?

What do you do when your private guide does not show up with staff that are supposed to escort you into the mountains for a 1 week hiking journey where you are going to stay in huts with the Lani and Dani tribes of Indonesia? The guide says no problem, stops at a local market and grabs 3 odorous men, that speak only local dialect and then says lets go?

What do you do when you arrive at 2:00am in Egypt (First time ever arriving in Africa (1997 so no cell phones) and only the 3rd overseas trip) and the driver is not there to greet you and the hotel you are supposed to be in says they don’t have you listed as a guest?

What do you do in South Africa when you rent a car, skid on gravel, end up backwards in the wrong lane, plunge into a ditch and crash it into a tree?

What do you do in Italy when your eyes suddenly go dark on a train?

You get the idea.

We will cover lots of safety tips and tricks so you can make the most of your next journey!
